Looking for kids’ school holiday activities in Byron Bay, Brunswick Heads, Mullumbimby or Northern Rivers? Brunswick Bush School offers nature-based holiday programs for children aged 3–12. Kids spend the whole day outdoors exploring, crafting, playing games, and having wild-hearted adventures.

 

We run two programs in the holidays:

Wild Wallabies Program – Ages 3–5 | Byron Bay Brunswick Heads Kids Holiday Activities

Wild Wallabies is Brunswick Bush School's nurturing nature connection program for 3-5 yr old kids. We run a 100% outdoor, all weather program. Two nature mentors gently guide the group for an adventure filled day of play, learning, exploring, crafting and story telling. We spend the day in wild nature offering an amazing and diverse playground that is rich with interactions and experiences building confidence and resilience

Monday 29th SeptCamouflage! The art of concealment.

Whether tracking an animal or trying to hide from one of those nasty drop bears, being able to camouflage is a great technique to ad to your bush skills. We will be learning how to make and use own camouflage paint, adding a few leaves and twigs then practising our tracking and hiding skills. Come dressed in your best camo gear!

Tuesday 30th Sept and Wednesday 1st Oct   Knife and Pouch TWO DAY WORKSHOP

Day 1

For the first day we sew together our leather pouches. Bring your own knife or you can purchase a new knife when you book. Workshop includes knife safety instructions. Please book in for both days. Suitable for children aged 7+. *You have the option of purchasing a new child sized Opinel Knife for $30 when booking in.


Day 2

For the second day of the knife and pouch workshop we finish our pouches,attach a clip, learn knife safety and practise our whittling skills. Bring your own knife or you can purchase a new knife when you book. Workshop includes knife safety instructions. Please book in for both days. Suitable for children aged 7+. *The option to buy a new child sized Opinel Knife will cost $30 when booking in.

Thursday 2nd Oct – Useful Plants and Bush Tucker

There are so many bush tucker and useful plants living right in our backyard. From rope and baskets to fire and food. There is a treasure of natural resources for the survivalist. Today we will adventure into the reserve to see what is in season and what we can find.

Friday 3rd Oct – Nature Play

We’ve compiled a list of our most popular games. In this action-packed day you’ll get to run your legs off as we play Capture the Flag, Bush Turkey’s Tail, Catch the Leopard’s Meat, Fire Keeper and more of our favourite wild bush games.

Monday 6th Oct – Beach Racers

Get set for race time! Design and make your own super cool model beach racer buggy built from recycled materials and powered by the wind. Then we test yourdesign by racing them down the beach.

Tuesday 7th Oct and Wednesday 8th Oct – River Tubing  TWO DAY WORKSHOP

Day 1

We're going tubing! In this fun new activity we'll use inner tyre tubes for a fun and adventurous float down the Brunswick River. On day one we will teach a weaving pattern and weave a seat for our tubes.

Suitable for children 7+ years.

Day 2

On the second day of this workshop, We'll walk our tubes into the reserve to our secret swim spot and at high tide we'll jump in with and float all the way back to bruns with a few stops along the way. We'll provide the tubes and all children will be required to wear the provided life jackets. 

Please note this is a two-day activity and you will be required to book both days. If you can only attend one, please contact us.

Thursday 9th Oct – Flint and Steel

An essential tool in any survivalist’s kit is the flint and steel- the quintessential fire-starting tool. In this workshop we teach about responsible use of fire and construct our own flint and steel. We whittle a handle, add a ferrocerium rod and then a striker to make a tool that will last for years and be a pride and joy.

Friday 10th Oct – Canoeing Simpsons Creek

One of our most popular activities, we spend the day on the beautiful Brunswick River catching the incoming tide up the wild reaches of Simpson’s Creek paddling deep into the Tyagarah Nature Reserve. We’ll be exploring rugged river banks and looking out for the myriad of birdlife that lives in the area. Suitable for children 7+ years. Some canoeing experience recommended.  *Limit of 16 children

The small print

Refunds and transfers

For any refunds or transers please email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. A 10% administration fee applies you if you cancel more than 7 days in advance of the attendance date. A 20% fee applies if canceling less than 7 days from attendance date. No refund is given if you cancel less than 72 hours before the attendance date. We are generally happy to transfer a booking to another date within the same holiday period with a minimum 48 hours notice, depending on availability. Unfortunately we do not refund if you forget to attend or your child is sick. We will provide a 50% refund if Bush School is cancelled due to extreme weather or some rare unforeseen event.

Cancellations

Bush School still operates rain hail or shine! (Yes, we don’t mind kids going out into the rain!) If, due to extreme weather, very heavy rain, or some other unforeseen circumstance Bush School needs to be cancelled, Rohan will contact parents the night before via email and text and no later than 7am on the day. 50% refunds will be issued for cancellations. If it is raining we have equipment to make shelters and keep children dry. It is the responsibility of parents to make sure children have raincoats and are appropriately dressed for a day outside.
