Hey Good Peoples,

As the world melts down Brunswick Bush School is forging ahead with the best antidote to crazy humans and out of control zombie viruses- Nature Time! Reclaim your sanity while giving the kids a good grounding in earth connection and nature play.

Come and lick the lock-down with us! The kids are busting to get outside and we have more fun options on offer than you can poke a needle at. Book into our Spring Holiday program now. We have three different programs on offer for all ages 3-12 years; Our Main Program for boys and girls 6-12 years running 5 days both weeks of the holidays, the Wild Wallabies for the wee’uns aged 3-5 years running 5 days a week both weeks of the holidays, and the Grrrls only! Program Just for Girls aged 6-12 years on Tuesday and Thursday each week.

Booking multiple days? Answer enrolment questions once only. When booking multiple days and/or mutliple kids you only need to answer the enrolment questions once.   Knots and shelters

Come on down for a practical lesson in knot tying. Today we learn several handy knots that have many uses in the bush. Then we will learn about different shelter styles and build our own cool shelters from materials we find in the bush.

Tuesday 21st  September

 Spear Making

Spear Making: Calling all young warriors! Using locally sourced materials for our spears we will whittle our spears and then harden the tips in fire to craft a deadly spear. Then we learn how to throw them safely. For ages 8 and up recommended.

      Mini Beasts

Have you seen the amazing beasts that roam the bush! You wouldn’t even know they are there because they are so small!! We will be collecting these mini beasts, looking at them up close and learning about their fascinating behaviour!

  Camouflage

Camouflage! The art of concealment! Whether tracking an animal or trying to hide from one, camouflage is a great bush skill to know. We will be learning how to make our own camouflage paint, painting ourselves up, adding a few leaves and sticks and practising our tracking and hiding skills. Come dressed in your best camo gear!

        Canoeing         Simpsons Creek*

One of our most popular activities, we spend the day on the beautiful Brunswick River catching the incoming tide up the wild reaches of Simpson’s Creek paddling deep into the Tyagarah Nature Reserve. We’ll be exploring rugged river banks and looking out for the myriad of birdlife that lives in the area. Suitable for children 7+ years. Some canoeing experience recommended.  *Limit of 16 children $10 Surcharge

Water Blasters*

Get set for the biggest water fight ever! You will make your own water cannon that can shoot a blast of water up to 10 metres! Be prepared to get a serious drenching and for loads of fun. *There is a materials charge of $15. Kids get to take home their blaster.

  Survival Kits Day 1: sew a pouch*

This two day course will be a fun exploration of survival in the bush. On day 1 we will be sewing a leather survival pouch to place our survival.

  Survival Kits Day 2: Fill the pouch*

Day 2 of the course we will be filling our pouch with essential survival equipment that even Bear Gryll’s would not want to be caught in the bush without! Each person takes home their own survival kit. *Please note there is a $15 materials charge for the contents of the survival kit which includes a compass, whistle, wire saw, and flint and steel & other things.

Friday 1st October

     Bark Boats

We craft cute palm frond boats with out riggers to sail the mighty bruns! Stiched together and sealed with glue, we attach a sail and some rigging and cast off to sail the seven seas!

All activities will run from 9-3pm and are based outdoors for the entire day. We meet outside the Brunswick Heads Surf Life Saving Club and then head into the bush (except for canoeing days. When canoeing we meet adjacent to the river. Notice will be sent via email where to meet).

The activities presented on any given day may change due to weather, numbers and other unforeseen circumstances. In the case of wet weather we set up basic tarp shelters. Each day is interspersed with games, sacred circles, 'sit spot' (nature meditation), a swim if weather permits and other nature connection activities.

Cost is $60* per day per child. Some activities incur a materials surcharge (this is listed in the description of the day in the table). 10% discount for siblings.

Just for grrrrls! (for girls 6-12 years) Spring Holiday Program

The Grrrls only program is back on this Spring holidays. This fun program is a special time for girls to connect with each other in a beautiful natural setting while having an awesome day of creating, crafting, exploring and sharing. We want to encourage more girls to be in nature so we have compiled a series of fantastic creative activities. Check out the program below and click on the booking link to book in!

The Grrls program is being led by Shamila. Shamila synthesises her 20 year experience working in environmental education, embodiment practise, nature therapy and group facilitation in her role as a bush school mentor.

Fairy and Hobbit houses

Let your imagination run wild as we enter the mysterious world of wood sprites and nature fairies. We will have loads of fun finding bush materials to craft into hobbit houses and funky fairy dens!

Branch Weaving

Come and join us for a fun and relaxing day by the river as we make our own bush looms and weave colourful pieces of nature art. We will be using wools and materials we find in the bush to make a beautiful take home piece of art at the end of the day!

Whittling

Bring your pocket knives. We’ll be whittlin’ away the time by the creek honing our skills and making some fancy craft pieces. We’ll cover the basics of safety and how to whittle. If you don’t have a knife don’t worry we’ll have spares for you to use.

Eco dyeing

This natural tie dyeing process uses plant tanins, is easy to learn and heaps of fun. Create your own unique and amazing designs. Bring your own white cotton shirt or cotton fabric to make your own tie dye creation.

Wild Wallabies Spring Holiday Program (for children 3-5 years)

Spring into action and hop along to the Wild Wallabies this holidays for some great nature play and adventure for the wee’uns! The Wild Wallabies is Brunswick Bush School's nature connection program for kids aged 3-5 years. This gentle and nurturing program provides a fun and adventurous day out. We explore, make stuff, play and learn about native plants and animals while building confidence and resilience in your child. Each day we explore a particular nature based theme. Click on the link next to the day you wish to book in to. We have now limited the group size of the Wild Wallabies to a max of 12 children.

Refund Policy

A 10% administration fee applies you if you cancel more than 7 days in advance of the attendance date. A 20% fee applies if cancelling less than 7 days from attendance date. No refund is given if you cancel less than 48 hours before the attendance date. We are generally happy to transfer a booking to another date with a minumun 48 hours notice, depending on availability.
