Hi Folks!

The holidays are looming large and Brunswick Bush School has a fine spread of activities on offer to excite even the fussiest of children. We have a slew of exciting new activities; Make a slingshot, learn the art of Trapping and Snare making (no animals will actually be trapped), and Making your own Survival Kit, plus lots of the usual fun and games. So, give the kids the boot and book them in for a fun day in the bush; learning, sharing, creating and adventuring.

Canoeing Marshalls Creek

Get ready for this exciting new Canoe adventure on Marshalls creek! Come with us as we paddle the wild upper reaches of Marshalls creek exploring ancient remnant rainforest and visiting fruit bat colonies as we wind our way down to meet the Brunswick River.

Tuesday 1st Oct Friction Fire Learn the art of fire making using friction fire methods! We will make a bow drill and show different methods of starting a fire using your bare hands. Way cool and super fun!

Death Traps and Snares

Another exciting new activity today we explore several different types of animal traps and snares we can make with simple equipment.  Once you learn the different techniques you will be making your own and well on the way to knowing how to survive in the bush!

Survival Kit day 1,

Sew the pouch

This two day course will be a fun exploration of survival in the bush. On day 1 we will be making our own leather survival pouch.

Survival Kit day 2, Fill the pouch

Day 2 of the course we will be filling our pouch with essential survival equipment that even Bear Grylls would not want to be caught in the bush without! Each person takes home their own survival kit. Please note there is a $15 materials charge for the contents of the survival kit which includes a small knife, whistle, wire saw, and many other things.

Canoeing Marshalls Creek

Today we Paddle up the northern arm of the Brunswick River, Marshalls Creek. This quiet meandering river will take us through fruit bat colonies and enchanted remnants of ancient Big Scrub rainforest.

Sling Shots

Sling Shots are a load of fun to play with. Today we will be making our own from forked branches, add some rubber and voila! A toy that will bring hours of fun!

Wednesday 9th Oct Scats, tracks and Traces There are signs of animals all around us but how do you know where to find them and what to look for? This fascinating day will explore the ancient art of animal tracking so you can track and find the animals that live all around us.

Thursday 10th Oct Cordage and Paracord Bracelets Today we will be having fun making cordage (twine) from natural fibres we collect in the bush. Cordage is essential for bush survival from making baskets and traps to tying a shelter and making a canoe. An invaluable bush skill to have!! We will also have fun making paracord survival bracelets.

Friday 11th Oct Knots and Shelters A perennial favourite with kids Knots and Shelters is a fun day of learning practical knots that you can use at home and building bush shelters. You will learn different types of shelter building techniques and then have a go at making your own.


All activities will run from 9-3pm and are based outdoors for the entire day. We meet outside the Brunswick Heads Surf Life Saving Club and then head into the bush (except for canoeing days. When canoeing we meet adjacent to the river. Notice will be sent via email where to meet).

The activities presented on any given day may change due to weather, numbers and other unforeseen circumstances. In the case of wet weather we set up basic tarp shelters. Each day is interspersed with games, sacred circles, 'sit spot' (nature meditation), a swim if weather permits and other nature connection activities.

Cost is $60* per day per child. 10% discount for siblings.

* There is a 50 cent booking fee for each booking made. Also there is a $5 surcharge for the flint and steel activities where the child takes home a flint and steel. This is clearly mentioned in the activity description.


Wild Wallabies Holidays October 2019  (for 3-5 years)

Brunswick Bush School is excited to announce the Wild Wallabies Holiday program being offered these holidays. Based on our popular term time program for children aged 3-5 years we spend the whole day outdoors (9-3pm) exploring, creating, playing and learning. Two mentors accompany the group (max 13 children). The cost is $60* for the day. Please click on the link next to the day you wish to book in and that will take you to our booking website.

The Holiday Wild Wallabies program provides a mix of structured and unstructured activities as we move through the bush accessing different ‘play’ spaces throughout the day. Gently led by two mentors the day consists of a variety of nature themed activities such as games, arts and crafts, meditative time, sharing circles, stories, exploring bushland, learning about the surrounding plants and animals, swimming (weather permitting), climbing trees, singing and free play. It's a fun day out which will ground and energise your child without over stimulating them.
